Are you trying to figure out ways to keep your home looking neat and spotless with the holiday season soon approaching? Well, do we have a treat for you! Here are a few cleaning tips and tricks that we swear by!

Oh, and don’t worry, you won’t have to go out and buy a bunch of expensive products to achieve this – just use what you already have at home!

1. Cleaning Woe: Dirt and Dust, Everywhere!

Tool to use: Coffee filters, tennis rackets, or even a broom!

The issue with dusting with a cloth is that it seems like the dust falls right back as soon as you’re done. This is because fine dust particles simply get thrown up into the air and fall back down – and cleaning cloths are not able to catch all of it.

In addition to regular vacuuming around your home, try using coffee filters to catch these fine dust particles.

For duvets, curtains, carpets, and other pieces of upholstery, take them outside and use a tennis racket (or any other sturdy racket) to whack all the dust away!

Also, if you tend to deal with dust on your walls, ceilings, or fans, try using a broom or any other dry household cleaning tool to brush away dust particles.

Remember to vacuum your floors once this is done.

2. Cleaning Woe: Hard-to-Reach Places

Tool to use: Manual and electric toothbrushes

Toothbrushes help clean your teeth – including those tiny spaces between each tooth. If they can reach those areas, then they sure will be helpful in getting to those hard-to-clean areas of your home.

Manual or electric toothbrushes are great to use to clean between tiles, bathroom corners, and any other area that is too small to reach by hand.

Electric toothbrushes are fantastic tools to use to scrub out grime between tiles and in bathroom and kitchen corners.

3. Cleaning Woe: Pet Fur

Tool to use: Tape and rubber gloves

Pet fur tends to get onto everything – and this is true, especially in the summer when pets start shedding.

It’s annoying to find those little fur balls behind couches, under beds, and stuck on carpets.

To get rid of them easily, use duct tape or rubber gloves to pick up all that fur!

Fur sticks to the tape and gets attracted to the friction caused by the rubber gloves.

4. Cleaning Woe: Grease Stains And Spills

Tool to use: Lemons, baking soda, and vinegar

Spills, stains, and leftover food residue accumulate in microwaves, ovens, fridges, countertops, and kitchen sinks.

Not only do these stains make your appliances smell bad, but over time they hamper the ways that your appliances work as well.

To get rid of those stains and spills with minimal effort.

For microwaves:

  • Mix lemon juice with water in a bowl.
  • Microwave on high for a minute.
  • Allow the mixture to sit inside the warm microwave, and then wipe the insides down.

For ovens and fridges:

  • Mix baking soda with lemon or vinegar to make a paste.
  • Spread the paste inside the appliance and let it sit.
  • Wipe down the paste – the grime should come right off.
  • Then use a clean, damp cloth to make sure the insides of your appliance are as clean as can be.

5. Cleaning Woe: Fingerprints On Glass, Appliance Doors & TV Screens

Tool to use: Stale bread

Getting fingerprints off your tv and laptop screens, table tops, mirrors, and windows is pretty frustrating.

What if we told you we have just the cleaning tip for you?

Get rid of these prints by using a piece of stale, old bread, and solve your problems in a jiffy!

The texture of bread allows it to absorb these marks.

  • Take a bit of stale bread and sprinkle a few drops of water on it.
  • Rub this piece on the area with the fingerprints, and voila! Fingerprints gone!
  • Remember to take a dry microfiber cloth to remove any residue the bread leaves behind.

6. Cleaning Woe: Scuff Marks

Tool to use: Tennis balls

Scruff marks and ones left from moving light pieces of furniture can be an eyesore. No matter how much you scrub at them, they never seem to go away.

Here’s a nifty cleaning tip to try out – use a clean and dry tennis ball to scrub these marks away!

7. Cleaning Woe: Spills Outside Your Home

Tool to use: Sawdust

Whilst cleaning out a garage or driveway sometimes spills happen. From oil spills to cleaning solutions, these liquid spills are inevitable. And they’re a nightmare to clean too! You’re practically racing against time trying to prevent these liquids from leaking over into your yard – and harming your plants.

To clean this up efficiently, try getting sawdust and using it as an absorbent.

Don’t worry; we don’t expect you to have loads of sawdust at home; luckily enough, you can pick it up from a home improvement store.

All you have to do is pour sawdust on the liquid spill, leave it until it absorbs the liquid and then sweep everything away.

8. Cleaning Woe: Grout And Grime

Tool to use: Bleach Pen

When you see grout accumulating between tiles, it’s pretty gross – especially if you have beautiful white tiles in your kitchens and bathrooms.

What’s more, is that grout is pretty hard to remove and hard to prevent from occurring again.

So instead of finding tiny tools to scratch it away, get a hold of a bleach pen to get it out.

The bleach acts on the grout, removing it and also is a deterrent – for a while – to it forming quickly again.

With these cleaning tips, we’re sure you’ll find it much easier to deal with those little cleaning issues that you face day to day. While these cleaning tips are helpful in managing issues as they come, nothing beats regular upkeep of your home.

By regularly cleaning and maintaining your home (and using these cleaning tips), your home will always be clean, organised, and the absolute envy of every other house in your neighbourhood.
