You aren’t alone if the rubbish removal process has completely stumped you. Rubbish removal from your home is a boring and confusing chore. It’s more tedious when you have all sorts of things to get rid of, and you constantly find that your bins are always full. Then, you have to deal with it being an eyesore until the rubbish removal trucks come to take it away.

To save yourself this headache in the future, we’ve got a few nifty ideas to help you reduce the amount of excess rubbish you have at home.

1. Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

Your rubbish bins are not likely to be collected by the council and garbage collectors if they are fully loaded. More so if you have garbage bags piled on top of each other next to your bin.

That’s where the 3 R’s come in to reduce the amount of junk. This is a way you can do rubbish removal in an environmentally conscious way.

Reduce

Taking steps to reduce the amount of rubbish that collects in your home helps prevent this issue from happening again.

Plus, you’ll be doing a lot of good for our environment and reduce your waste disposal costs as well!

For example, you can purchase only the things you need. For example, try to buy items that have the least packaging possible. You can also plan your meals and make a weekly shopping list so that you don’t overbuy food. In this manner, excess food will not inevitably go to waste.

Reuse

You may feel the urge to pick up all the pile of junk and get rid of it as soon as possible when you look at it.

However, before you start throwing things away, take a look at them and see if they can be of any use to you or your family.

We tend to use plastic bags just one time, forget about them and end up throwing them into the bin. You can store them in a kitchen cabinet and use them again to reduce the amount of waste.

You can also:

  1. Repurpose old wine or other glass bottles. You can use them as water bottles, a cool vase, or even as a lamp. All you have to do is put a string of fairy lights into the bottle and voila!
  2. Use sturdy takeout boxes as food containers at home.
  3. Convert old linen – sheets, towels, etc. – and clothing into dish rags.

Recycle

If you find lots of boxes and random items strewn around, it’s likely because you aren’t recycling as much as you should. You’d be surprised how many things in your trash you can actually recycle!

When you dispose of items, be sure to separate them and put recyclable items in one bin, food waste in another, and general waste in a third bin. In doing so, you’ll save plenty of time and energy come trash collection day.

In case you have too many items and the trash collectors will not take them, you may need to make a trip to your local recycling centre by yourself.

2. Compost Your Kitchen Waste

Speaking of separating food waste generated at home, composting is a great solution to minimise the amount you need to throw out – and provide your plants with much nourishment too!

The process is quite simple, and all you will need is a good-quality compost bin! Simply throw all organic kitchen waste – like vegetable and fruit peels, offcuts, bones etc into the compost bin, and when it’s full, you can add it to the soil in your garden.

If you don’t have a garden or a green thumb, you can take your compost to a local nursery or community garden and ask if they would like to use it there!

3. Donate What You Can

While you declutter your home, check to see if there are any items, like old toys, clothes etc., that are in usable condition. Often, we throw these items out because we have no use for them or because they don’t fit us.

Rather than having these things end up in a landfill, you can donate them.

Find local charities or donation drives near you and check if you have items that you can contribute.

However, always ensure that the items you give away are not torn or broken in any way.

Tip: To help keep clutter in check, designate a space in your home where you place items you want to donate as you find them – keeping loads of junk from piling up!

4. Talk To Your Council for Rubbish Removal

Sometimes when waste is not disposed of properly, the council trucks will not collect them. Then these bags sit outside your home until the next time the trucks come, and you would have to hold on to some bags or find a way to dispose of them all properly.

Talk to your local council to figure out if there is a possibility for them to help you with junk removal – especially when you have a lot of excess junk to throw away.

When speaking with these authorities, you might need to pay an additional fee for the excess junk requiring removal.

5. Junk Removal Services

If there is too much junk and you do not have the energy or time to sort through everything – you can hire a junk removal service.
